Plagiarism Checker

Check your writing against published web sources before you submit it. Diglot finds passages that match content already online, highlights them in your document, and lets you fix each one in a couple of clicks.

How to find it

Open the Plagiarism tab in the editor’s right panel, or just ask Cowriter to “check for plagiarism.” You’ll see two buttons:

• Quick check — a fast estimate in a few seconds.
• Run full scan — a thorough page-by-page check of the whole document.

Quick check vs. full scan

Quick check samples a few passages from your document and gives you a rough similarity estimate in about 3–5 seconds — enough to answer “is this worth a full scan?” It tells you the estimated similarity and how much of your quota a full scan would use, so there are no surprises.

Full scan checks your entire document, page by page, against the web. It runs in the background with a live progress bar, and matches appear as each page finishes. A scan only counts against your quota when it completes — if it fails partway through, you don’t lose anything.

Reading the results

Matches are underlined right in your document, colored by how close the match is:

Click any highlight to see the matching source, a snippet, and three actions.

Three ways to fix a match

• Rewrite — opens the paraphraser with the matched text ready to rephrase. You review the suggestion as a preview and accept or reject it.
• Cite — opens the citation builder with the source link and title filled in, so you can turn the match into a proper reference.
• Exclude — marks the passage as intentional (for example, a quote or your own bibliography).

When you exclude a passage you choose how widely it applies — just this document, the whole workspace/folder, or your entire account (handy for boilerplate you reuse).

Plans and limits

Plagiarism has two separate monthly allowances — quick checks and full scans — that reset on the 1st of each month.

Highlights and the Rewrite / Cite / Exclude actions are available on every plan. Free includes quick checks only — full scans start on Spark. Wider exclusion scopes (workspace and account-wide) unlock on Spark and above.

Limitations

• The quick check is an estimate from a few samples, not a verdict — run a full scan to be sure.
• A full scan of a long document can take one to a few minutes.
• Diglot checks against the public web — it doesn’t compare your work against other students’ private submissions.
• Checking your work against your own past documents isn’t available yet.

Common questions

How accurate is the quick check? It samples a portion of your document, so treat it as a signal. If it shows more than about 20% similarity, run the full scan.

Does this check against other students’ papers? No — Diglot checks the public web. University-grade cross-student checking is a separate offering for institutions.

Will rewriting always remove the match? Usually rephrasing the passage clears it. Re-scan afterward to confirm.

Can I exclude my bibliography or quotes? Yes — use Exclude on those passages, or set an account-wide rule for boilerplate you always include.

How is this different from Turnitin? Turnitin is bought by institutions to check submissions. Diglot’s checker is for you — to check your own work before you hand it in.

If a scan fails, do I lose my quota? No. Quota only counts when a scan finishes successfully.
