Not sure how to structure a research article, a literature review, or an email to your supervisor? Templates give you a ready-made outline with the sections you need and guidance on what to write in each one. They’re scaffolds, not boilerplate — you fill in your own ideas, and Diglot can help.

How to find it

• Templates tab in the editor’s right-side panel — browse the catalog, pick one, and start a document.
• New document dialog — choose a template the moment you create a document.
• Slash menu — type / in the editor and search for a template by name.
• Cowriter chat — ask the assistant to start a section using a structure you name (for example, a methodology section).

What it does

Each template gives you named sections, a short instruction for each one (what to cover and how), and placeholder text to replace. Templates follow recognized academic structures, so your draft starts out organized the way readers and reviewers expect.

They also fit into the wider Diglot workflow: start with structure (Templates), add content, then polish with Grammar and Paraphrase, and check integrity with Plagiarism and the Authorship Certificate.

What’s in the catalog

Diglot ships 20 built-in templates — 12 academic documents and 8 academic email templates.

Academic documents (12): Research Article, Journal Abstract, Literature Review, Argumentative Essay, Research Proposal, Thesis Chapter, Expository Essay, Annotated Bibliography, Case Study Analysis, Reflective Essay, Academic Book Review, and Systematic / Scoping Review.

Academic email (8): Email to a Potential Supervisor, Extension Request, Email to a Journal Editor, Journal Cover Letter, Peer Review Response Letter, Conference Abstract, Recommendation Letter Request, and Conference Communication.

Some templates offer variants (a Thesis Chapter can be set up as Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Findings, Discussion, or Conclusion) and ask for details up front (journal name, professor name, manuscript ID, and so on) so the wording fits your situation.

Fill with AI

Each section has a Fill with AI button. Diglot writes a draft for that section using the template’s structure, your earlier sections (so it stays coherent), and any details you entered. The result appears as a reviewable change you can accept or reject — no surprise overwrites. You always stay in control, one section at a time.

Custom templates

You can build your own templates too:

• From scratch — give it a name, sections, and instructions.
• From an existing document — use “Save as template” to reuse a structure you like.

Plans and limits

Templates aren’t metered on their own — you can use them freely. Each template just has a minimum plan to start it, and Fill with AI draws from your assistant (Cowriter) allowance.

Structure is free. The AI generation is what draws from your assistant allowance.

Limitations

• AI-generated drafts are richer on higher plans — Free produces shorter, simpler output.
• Custom templates are personal to your account; shared team templates come with the business plan.
• The curated Template Gallery is available on Pro.
• Suggested section lengths are guidance, not strict limits — Fill with AI tries to match them but may run a bit short or long.

Common questions

Do I have to use a template? No. A blank document is always there. Templates simply help when you’re unsure how to structure your writing.

Can I change the sections after I create a document? Yes. You can add, remove, reorder, and rename sections (on Spark and up). Required sections can’t be deleted, but you can rename them.

Does Fill with AI plagiarize? No — it generates original content. If you want extra peace of mind, run the Plagiarism check afterward. The tools are built to work together.

How is this different from asking a chatbot to “write me an essay”? Templates give you structure and section-by-section guidance, and the AI writes within that structure instead of dumping one block of text. You control each section and review every change before accepting it.

Can I share my custom template with classmates? Custom templates are private to your account for now. Team sharing comes with the business plan.
