Document Sharing

Sharing lets you send anyone a link to your document. They open it in their browser and see a clean, read-only version — no account, no signup, no login. You can leave the link open to anyone, or lock it with a password, set a view limit, and add an expiry date. It’s the simplest way to show a draft to a professor, a colleague, or a friend.

• Click Share in the editor header to open the sharing options.
  • Sharing is available on Spark, Pro, and Max plans.
  1. Open the document you want to share.
  2. Click Share in the header.
  3. Choose your options:
    • Public (anyone with the link) or Protected (password required)
    • An expiration (1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or never)
    • A view limit, if you want the link to stop working after a set number of opens
  4. Click Create Link, then copy it and send it however you like — email, chat, your course platform, anywhere.

A clean, read-only copy of your document — title, author name, last-updated date, and the full text and formatting. There are no editing tools, no AI panels, and nothing about how you wrote it. They don’t need a Diglot account.

If you set a password, they’ll be asked for it before the document opens.

Reopen the Share panel any time to:

  • See all the links for that document and how many times each has been viewed
  • Temporarily switch a link off without deleting it
  • Change a link’s password, expiry, or view limit
  • Revoke a link permanently — anyone who tries it afterward sees an error

  • Shared documents are read-only — recipients can view but not edit. Real-time collaboration isn’t available yet.
  • Recipients can’t leave comments yet.
  • Sharing requires Spark, Pro, or Max — it’s not available on Free.
  • A link shares the whole document; you can’t share just one section.
  • Shared documents can’t be embedded as a frame on another website.
  • Recipients can’t download or export from the shared view (they can copy the text).
  • Can someone edit my shared document? No. Shared links are always read-only — only you can edit.
  • Can I see who viewed it? You can see the total number of views per link, but not who they were (no login is required to view).
  • What if I edit the document after sharing? The link always shows your latest version, so recipients see your most recent edits.
  • Can I share with specific people by email? Not yet — for now you share by link and control access with passwords and view limits.
  • Does the shared link show my AI usage? No. It only shows the final document text — no AI panels, Cowriter history, or authorship data.
  • How do I stop sharing? Open the Share panel and switch the link off, or click Revoke to delete it permanently.
  • Can I share on the Free plan? No — sharing requires Spark, Pro, or Max.
