Exporting your document

Download your document as a Word, PDF, Markdown, HTML, or plain-text file. Your headings, lists, images, and reference list carry over, so the file is ready to keep editing or hand in.

How to find it

• In the editor — open the document menu and choose Export.
• From the dashboard — select one or more documents and export them together.
• Cmd+K — open the command box and type “export”.

What it does

Pick a format and Diglot prepares the file in the background — usually a few seconds. When it’s ready, a download button appears right in the dialog, and finished exports also show up in your notifications.

Word and PDF files keep your document’s structure: headings stay real headings, lists stay lists, and images appear in their original position. Word files use true Word heading styles, so everything survives further editing in Word or Google Docs.

Your reference list in the file

If your document has citations, the export ends with a References section built from your citation list. Entries follow the citation style you picked for the document — APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Vancouver, or Harvard. See Citations for how styles work.

Exporting several documents at once

From the dashboard you can select multiple documents and export them in one go — you get a single ZIP archive with one file per document. Bulk export is available on Spark and up.

Plans and limits

Exports draw from a monthly allowance, counted in files and reset on the 1st of each month:

Plain-text export is available on every plan, so you always have access to your own content.

Limitations

• Tables are exported as plain text — each cell’s text is kept, row by row, but the table grid isn’t reproduced yet.
• Exports use one clean standard layout. There are no page-layout options yet — no title page, running head, page numbers, or custom margins. See below.

Academic formatting: planned

Full academic page formatting — a title page, running head, page numbers, and ready-made layout presets for APA, MLA, Chicago, and other styles, plus a page-by-page preview — is planned but not available yet. Today’s export focuses on carrying your content and structure over faithfully; your reference list already follows your chosen citation style.

Common questions

Can I export on the Free plan? Yes — plain text (.txt), up to 10 exports per month. Word, PDF, and Markdown need Spark or higher; HTML needs Pro.

Will my Word file look right in Word? Yes — headings, lists, and images come through as real Word structure, so you can keep editing in Word or Google Docs. Tables come through as plain text rows for now.

Can Diglot format my paper in APA or MLA? Your citations and reference list follow your chosen style today. Full page formatting (title page, running head, page numbers) is planned but not available yet.

Where does my export go? The download button appears in the export dialog when the file is ready, and finished exports also appear in your notifications.
