Desktop System Overlay

The desktop overlay puts Diglot one keystroke away in any app on your computer. Select some text — in your email, a chat, a document, anywhere — press a shortcut, and a small pop-up offers to translate it, rewrite it, fix the grammar, or save the word to your vocabulary, right where you’re working.

Is it available yet?

Not yet — it’s built but not publicly released. We’ll announce it after beta. For now, use Diglot in your browser at app.diglot.ai.

What it does

Once it’s running in the background, you select text anywhere and press the shortcut — Cmd+Shift+D on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+D on Windows. A little pop-up appears with these options:

1. Translate to write — translate into your writing language and replace the text in place.
2. Translate to read — translate into your own language so you can understand it, shown without changing anything.
3. Paraphrase — rewrite the selected text.
4. Fix grammar — correct the selection.
5. Save to vocab — keep the word to study later.

For the actions that change text, you’ll see a preview first with Apply, Copy, or Cancel — so nothing changes unless you say so.

You sign in once, and the overlay stays signed in securely using the same account as the rest of Diglot.

What you’ll need

• Permission to let the overlay read and replace the text you select in other apps — you grant this once in your system settings.
• A signed-in Diglot account.

Common questions

Can I use it right now? Not yet — it’s built but hasn’t been released to the public. Use the web app in the meantime.

How is this different from the desktop app? The desktop app is Diglot’s editor in its own window. The overlay works inside other apps — your email, a chat, a form — wherever you’re already typing.

Why does it need permission to read text? So it can see the text you’ve selected in another app and replace it with the result. You grant this once.

Will it work on Windows? Yes — Mac and Windows are both planned.

Do I have to sign in again every time? No. It stays signed in securely, sharing your session with the rest of Diglot.
