Paraphrasing rewrites your text in a different tone or style — more formal, more academic, more concise, or just clearer — while keeping your meaning. It’s perfect for polishing an awkward sentence, tightening a wordy paragraph, or shifting from casual to professional.

How to find it

You can paraphrase from a few places — they all work the same way and share the same monthly allowance:

• Paraphrase tab — select text, pick a style, and get rewrite options.
• Humanize — after an AI Check scan, rewrite flagged sections to sound more natural.
• Cowriter — ask in chat, like “paraphrase this in a formal style.”
• Cmd+K — open Cowriter at your text and choose a paraphrase style.

Paraphrasing is available on every plan; the available styles and limits depend on your plan.

Plans and limits

Paraphrasing uses a monthly word allowance. Every entry point — the panel, Humanize, and Cowriter — draws from the same bucket, which resets on the 1st of each month.

Limitations

• On the Free plan, only the Standard style is available — upgrade to Spark for all styles.
• The Academic and Formal styles are tuned for English first, so they’re less precise in other languages.

Common questions

How is paraphrasing different from translation? Paraphrasing rewrites the same idea in the same language, changing tone or style. Translation moves your text between languages.

Why are there several variants? Different phrasings have different feels. Comparing two or three is faster than re-running until you like one — and your likes and dislikes help improve future results.

Does academic style work for non-English text? It works, but it’s tuned for English first, so it’s a bit less precise in other languages.

How is Humanize different from the other styles? Humanize focuses on making AI-assisted text read more naturally and less mechanically. It always returns one best result.

Can I paraphrase from Cowriter chat? Yes. Ask “paraphrase this in formal style” and Cowriter handles it with the same quality and the same word allowance as the panel.
